Plain and simple, I - Love - Food.
I love cooking it, I love eating it, I love growing it, I love its production, I love its artistry, its aroma, its energy. Even if it wasn't a life supporting type of thing, I'd still love it. My mum spent many hours cooking it for her five kids and husband, with me looking on and occasionally helping. And when she went to university after all the kids were grown, dad tried his hand at cooking (mainly so he would get food at a reasonable hour), with me again looking on and helping. I come from the kind of family who has women with their own secret recipe books, sometimes with jealously guarded secret recipes. I have specifically requested to have my mum's handwritten recipe book willed to me.
I cook with my own opinion of food. A sort of arrogant independence of thought in that I want food that will nourish me, make me feel good inside and out, and so I am the only one who knows what's best for my body. I enjoy baking, however I don't eat a lot of sugary style foods. I will bake batches of brownies and take them into work for others to eat rather than having them spoil eventually if left for me to eat. My food philosophy is borne of an average of other educated food people. My brother is a dietician so I have a free food consultation whenever I want.
My preference is for fresh food, as little added as possible in the way of unnatural colours or preservatives. I don't need added extras such as salt or sugar at levels which are at the manufacturers discretion to make things taste good. That's what I do to it in cooking it or pairing it with other complimentary items. I prefer food which is unprocessed, which is not to say that I don't enjoy them occasionally. I just listen to how I feel afterwards, how I perform when exercising to see the effects. When cooking, I often don't even stick to the recipe, I get an idea in my head and start experimenting. Some of my best (and most horrendous) meals have come from this. But I'm always always learning.
So, what has all this got to do with craft you say? Well, I'm going to post my recipes, make them free for all to try. I'm not claiming that they are all perfect or healthy or that they would be recommended by my brother. These are just recipes I have enjoyed making and thought that others would too. I will even post new and improved versions of them when I make them.
From my kitchen to yours - Bon Appetit!
