Quilts

Quilting is something that I literally woke up one day and decided to teach myself. I felt I was proficient enough in general sewing (I had made clothing before and other fabricated items, and of course many repairs to many items) and had a fair clue of what I was doing. In reality I only knew the basics, which had gotten me by up until that point supported by a healthy dose of attention to detail and persistence. I didn't even own a sewing machine! So I bought a sewing machine (it was a crappy cheap-o one), a book on modern quilting (below) and fired up good ol' YouTube.

The first few YouTube videos I came across were quite... ah... simplistic. I wondered, 'were people really that dim-witted?' Did they really not understand that if they wanted to cut three quarters of an inch, they could either measure three quarters of an inch from the edge OR measure one quarter of an inch back from the inch mark? The grating twang of the lady YouTube instructor's voice continued on as if unaware that she had aimed her video at too low a level. Surely if people were having trouble with that concept, they should perhaps view the 'Basic Mathematics' YouTube video first before trying to tackle something so complex?

In any case, I suppose I will never forget my introduction to the world of quilting.

The posts that follow will contain my quilts (past, present and future), methods, ideas, tricks, trials and tribulations, in the hope that someone else will learn without feeling as if they are a fully grown adult sitting in a third grade class, with the teacher explaining that 'four minus one equals three'.

In essence I will laugh at my own expense rather than yours.
